The Flyers were 33-31-18, finishing well out of the running in both the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference wild-card picture.
Several players were hopeful that Berube would return for his third season, including winger Jakub Voracek.
“Of course I want him back,” Voracek said in a Thursday interview on Comcast’s Breakfast on Broad. “I think everybody wants him back, because he’s a players’ coach.”
After serving six seasons as assistant coach, Berube replaced Peter Laviolette as the 18th head coach in franchise history in October 2013, posting a record of 75-58-28 during his short tenure. In total, he has spent 18 seasons with the Flyers as a player, assistant coach and head coach.
Berube, 49, had one year remaining on his contract.
