What makes Crab Game special isn’t just that it’s a Squid Game-inspired multiplayer game, but that it’s a great option for streaming in groups. Like with Fall Guys or battle royale games like Fortnite, streaming Crab Game lets viewers be a part of the fun. Unfortunately, that can deeply awry if, for example, Crab Game doesn’t do enough to protect players’ IP addresses from being discovered by malicious strangers. Unfortunately, that happened.

Developer Dani says that it won’t happen in Crab Game again, however. Dani shared on Twitter that “Crab Game is now SAFE,” confirming that that game has been updated so as to no longer reveal players’ IP addresses. He says that Crab Game now utilizes the Steam platform’s Networking tech, which protects’ users IP addresses. Dani compares the technology to what “any other game on Steam” utilizes to protect players’ IP addresses.
There is one big caveat, according to Dani, but it’s not related to IP addresses. Dani explains that he “completely replaced all the old networking code with the new one” and apparently did so very quickly. As a result, there are currently what Dani describes as “a lot of issues” with Crab Game. As in, players may experience a significant amount of bugs while playing. Dani explains that his priority was making the game safe to play and that the bugs can be solved later.
Lastly, Dani apologizes to streamers who were impacted by Crab Game’s lax security. He specifically names xQc, Sodapoppin, and Nick Polom. All three were DDOS’d several days ago after playing Crab Game and having their IP addresses made vulnerable. Dani had previously warned streamers to stay away from public lobbies on Crab Game until he fixed the game.
Crab Game is unabashedly capitalizing on the success of Squid Game, but it’s also a very interesting game and makes for a wonderful social experience. Hopefully, this speed bump doesn’t slow down its success and it’s able to build a game that’s even more fun and exciting as result.
Crab Game is available now on PC.
