The Warner Bros. film will focus on Wile E. Coyote, who decides to hire a lawyer and sue the ACME Corporation after their faulty products continue to undermine his countless attempts at catching the Roadrunner. Although the case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the company’s ruthless attorney, the growing friendship between the two only fuels their perseverance and eagerness to win.

Deadline reports Forte will play Wile. E Coyote’s lawyer, but details regarding Condor’s role remain under wraps. In February, it was announced that Cena would be playing ACME’s attorney, who is also the former boss of Forte’s character. James Gunn, who also created the successful Peacemaker series starring Cena, will serve as producer alongside Chris DeFaria. The film is expected to make its theatrical debut on July 21, 2023.
Forte —who recently reprised his iconic SNL character MacGruber in the Peacock series of the same name— and Cena aren’t the first actors to join live-action/CGI films with the Looney Tunes. Brendan Fraser previously starred in the critically-panned 2003 movie Looney Tunes: Back in Action, which featured Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny. In addition, NBA legend Michael Jordan appeared in the original 1996 film Space Jam, which received a reboot starring LeBron James in 2021. While most of these films received poor reviews at the time, they nonetheless became pop culture icons over time.
Forte is very familiar with whacky comedy, having been a member of SNL before his exit in 2010, so he would be in his element for the film, but Condor hasn’t had that much experience in the genre. The actress had her breakout role as Lara Jean Covey in the teen franchise To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and will appear next in the HBO Max romantic comedy Moonshot. Still, working with her more experienced comedian co-stars could help Condor deliver a hilarious performance.
Moreover, Cena has shown to have a great sense of comedic timing in both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the latter of which was recently renewed for a second season. Therefore, although previous live-action/animated Looney Tunes hybrids were rather mediocre, a good script and creative direction paired up with the actors’ talent might be enough to make Coyote vs. Acme a classic.
Coyote vs. Acme is slated for release on July 21, 2023.
